Moltech opens dedicated smart battery production unit in Europe

UK facility to manufacture standard & custom intelligent batteries for OEM’s throughout Europe

To support the further expansion and success of its ‘smart’ battery business, Moltech Power Systems has established a new, dedicated smart battery production facility in Europe. Moltech’s well-established range of standard and custom intelligent rechargeable batteries will now be manufactured in the 250m² production unit at the company’s European Headquarters near Stoke-on-Trent, England.

“The new production facility provides an excellent controlled environment which is necessary for electronics assembly”, comments Neil Oliver, Battery Projects Manager for Moltech. “Our ISO9001 accredited quality management system and UL approvals demonstrate the controls we have in place to ensure we deliver reliable, quality assured battery products.”

Intelligent or ‘smart’ battery technology enables interaction and communication between the battery, charger and the device. Benefits include improved battery management, longer battery life, accurate fuel gauging for the device user’s convenience, and valuable data on the battery condition and history.

Moltech’s Standard Smart Battery systems provide OEMs with a range of well-proven, off-the-shelf smart battery and charger solutions to reduce development time and costs. The Standard batteries are fully SMBus compliant and feature industry-leading 16 bit fuel gauge accuracy, together with a proprietary ‘dynamic end of discharge cut-off’ which ensures maximum runtime throughout the life of the battery. Moltech also develops customised versions of these standard batteries to meet customers’ exacting specifications.

Moltech also designs and delivers unique custom smart battery solutions for customers in a range of markets throughout Europe, utilising simple one-wire systems through to fully custom communication protocols.
